Opening week of Mid-American Conference football action concluded Saturday and if the early returns on this season are any indication, the MAC will be a wide open, competitive affair once again. Saturday's games included a dramatic overtime win by Bowling Green on the road at Minnesota, the MAC's second road win over a BCS school already this season; record-shattering attendance for Northern Illinois' tilt at Soldier Field against Iowa and Akron claiming victory in the inaugural Patriot Bowl in Cleveland.
It wasn't all rosy though for everyone as teams from the MAC West division went a combined 0-6 in opening week action, including blow-out losses by the three Michigan MAC schools which were outscored by a combined count of 141-34 in three road BCS contests as well as Toledo getting thumped at home by Purdue.
Meanwhile, defending MAC East champion Ohio took care of business at home against Gardner-Webb
