PHILADELPHIA - Keien Williams, a redshirt junior running back from Eden, N.Y. (Eden Senior HS), suffered a fracture in his cervical spine last week in practice and will miss the entire 2007 season. The 5-10, 205-pound newcomer suffered no paralysis, and his prognosis is good. He is expected to make a full recovery.
"I am very disappointed that any injury happens to a player, let alone a serious one that is season ending," second-year Temple head football Al Golden said. "In the short time that Keien has been apart of the Temple football program, he has become a valuable asset not only to our offense but to our team. He had earned playing time on offense and has become an asset to our team because of his outstanding work ethic, positive attitude and maturity. Keien will be missed this season. I look forward to his healthy return next summer."
A transfer to Temple, Williams played the 2004 and 2005 seasons at Maine. He played in 10 games as a true freshman in 2004, rushing 19 times for 103 yards, while returning six kickoffs for 109 yards. He led the team with a 5.4 yards per carry average. Williams also served as the primary backup to Marcus Williams, the school's all-time leading rusher.
