Central Michigan junior quarterback Dan LeFevour is among 31 candidates named to the preseason "Watch List" for the Davey O'Brien Quarterback Award given annually to the nation's top collegiate quarterback by the Davey O'Brien Foundation.
LeFevour led the Chippewas to their second straight Mid-American Conference title last season and in the process became only the second player in NCAA FBS history to pass for over 3,000 yards and rush for over 1,000 yards in the same season. The junior signal-caller accounted for over 4,700 yards of offense and 46 touchdowns in 2007 and was named the MAC's 2007 Offensive Player of the Year.
In just two seasons LeFevour has already set school records for passing yards, completions, attempts, touchdown passes and total offense.
The "Watch List" candidates were selected by a subcommittee of members of the Davey O'Brien National Selection Committee. Semifinalists for the award will be announced October 27 and the finalists will be announced on November 24. The candidates are evaluated on a combination of their on-field abilities, academics, character and leadership qualities.
The winner will be announced on December 11 during ESPN's Home Depot College Football Awards Show.
LeFevour was the only Mid-American Conference quarterback named to the O'Brien Award's preseason watch list.
