The Ohio Bobcats announced today that head football coach Frank Solich has received a five-year extension through the 2013 season.
"This may be the best news of the year for our athletic program," Ohio Director of Athletics Jim Schaus said in announcing the contact extension, adding "I am elated to ensure Frank Solich being here for the next five years."
Now entering his fourth season at Ohio, Solich has guided the Bobcats to bowl eligibility in two of his first three seasons after coming over from Nebraska.
Solich, the 2006 MAC Coach of the Year, led Ohio to a MAC East divisional title in 2006 which culminated in its first bowl trip since 1968 with the Bobcats squaring off against Southern Mississippi in the 2007 GMAC Bowl. Last season Ohio finished 6-6 but did not receive a bowl invitation.
"I am very excited about the future of Ohio football but I also look forward to helping our student-athletes realize their dreams on and off the field for a long time to come," said Solich.
Solich currently ranks 18th among active NCAA Football Subdivision (FBS) head coaches with at least five years of experience, sporting a career winning percentage of .675. Prior to his arrival at Ohio he spent six seasons as the head coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and was named Big 12 Coach of the Year in 1999 and 2001.
