 Ball State TE Darius Hill A pair of Mid-American Conference senior tight ends are making repeat appearances on the preseason watch list for the John Mackey Award which is given annually to the nation's top collegiate tight end.
Following up a junior season that saw him score first-team All-MAC honors as well as being a semifinalist for last year's Mackey Award, Ball State senior Darius Hill added to his preseason accolades by being named once again to the Mackey Award's watch list of candidates.
Hill enters his senior season after catching 65 passes for 925 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2007, topping all MAC tight ends. Hill is currently tied for the top spot all-time at Ball State with 24 career touchdown receptions and ranks sixth all-time with 1,803 career receiving yards,
Earlier this season Hill was named to the 2008 Lombardi Award watch list and was a first-team preseason All-MAC selection by MAC Report Online.

Joining Hill on the list of 30 players named to the preseason Mackey Award watch list, and also scoring his second straight appearance on the award's preseason watch list, is Western Michigan senior tight end Brandon Ledbetter, a third-team All-MAC selection in 2007 and 2008 second-team preseason MAC Report Online all-conference selection.
Ledbetter crossed the goal line six times last season and holds the career mark for touchdowns by at tight end at Western Michigan with 14 touchdown catches while currently ranking fourth all-time among Broncos tight ends in both career receptions and yards.
Ledbetter's 2007 campaign was highlighted by his being selected as the John Mackey National Tight End of the Week on November 14 following a five reception, 124-yard, one touchdown performance against Central Michigan.
The John Mackey Award is named for NFL Hall of Famer John Mackey and has been presented since 2000 by the Nassau County Sports Commission. The eventual award winner is selected in voting by the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and is announced in mid-December.
