Brandon takes his Falcons to Wyoming to face the Cowboys Saturday. Bowling Green will be the second MAC squad to make a trip out to Wyoming this season. Earlier Ohio made the long trek and fell just short, 21-20 in Laramie.
“It’s the only game in town. It’s the only university in the state and those cowboys will drive eight or 10 hours to see the ’Pokes play,” Brandon said. “And they are pretty fired up when they get there, if you know what I mean.”
“I worked for a great head coach in Paul Roach. He had coached in the NFL for about nine or 10 years. I learned a lot of football from Paul,” Brandon said. “We had some good teams.”
The Cowboys, currently 2-2 overall after a 44-0 loss to No. 11 BYU, have played three games at home this fall, averaging 20,918 fans per game.
"The three home games they’ve had, they’ve almost filled it,” Brandon said of Jonah Field at War Memorial Stadium which has a capacity of 30,514. “It looks like a great atmosphere just on film.”
War Memorial Stadium is at the highest altitude of any Division I football stadium in the country at 7,220 feet.
INJURIES: The status of receivers/quarterbacks Freddie Barnes (shoulder) and Anthony Turner (shoulder) and linebacker Erique Dozier (ankle) is still uncertain for Saturday’s game.
“Right now, hopefully, we’re going to have everybody,” Brandon said. “It’s still day-to-day with Turner, Barnes and Dozier.”
Offensive tackle Jeff Fink rested during BG’s bye week last week and will be ready to go, Brandon said.
“He would have to get hit by a MAC truck to keep him out,” Brandon said.
Roger Williams, a backup in the secondary and a special teams performer, has his injured hand heavily bandaged and is probable.
“He’s practiced so hopefully he’ll be ready to go,” Brandon said.
RETURN DATE: Saturday will be the first meeting between BG and Wyoming. The Cowboys are scheduled to play at BG Oct. 3 next season.
