Keith Dambrot's Akron Zips are on a six-game winning streak
Six more teams hit the hardwood tonight as Mid-American Conference divisional crossover play begins to wind down. Tonight's slate is highlighted by MAC West leader Ball State traveling to streaking Akron while Bowling Green and Toledo renew their rivalry with Ohio visiting slumping Western Michigan. Bowling Green
(13-9, 6-3 MAC) at Toledo (4-19, 2-7 MAC)
7 p.m. • Toledo leads series 83-75
Toledo hosts Bowling Green on Wednesday in a rivalry matchup scheduled to tip at 7 p.m....The Rockets will be looking to snap a five-game losing streak against a Falcon club that brings a five-game winning streak into the contest... The Rockets are coming off a 53-40 setback to Miami on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore F Mohamed Lo led UT offensively with a career-high 13 points... Toledo’s six home defeats this season are UT’s most losses in Savage Arena since posting a 9-6 mark in the 1992-93 campaign... BG is 4-0 against MAC West Division opponents this year and have now won three consecutive road games after opening the season with seven straight road defeats. Toledo is 0-4 against MAC East teams and has lost five straight entering the contest. The Rockets are 3-6 at home this year... Bowling Green’s defense has keyed the Falcons’ win streak. The team held opponents to 58.4 points per game and just 39.6 percent shooting during the stretch. As well, BG has cleaned up the boards, outrebounding opponents by 5.6 per contest, and is shooting 74.5 percent from the free-throw line.

 

Ball State (10-11, 5-4 MAC) at Akron (15-8, 6-3 MAC)
7 p.m. • Ball State leads series 15-12
• Closing a two-game homestand, Akron welcomes Ball State to Rhodes Arena on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. EST MAC cross-divisional match up...The Zips, who have won six straight and seven of their last eight games, come off an 87-63 win over Western Michigan at home on Sunday. Akron has notched double-digit victories in three straight and five of its last six outings. UA is 8-2 at home season and 4-0 overall against MAC West Division foes... Akron is averaging 46.6 percent (15-of-322) from the field and 35.1 percent (39-of-111) from behind the arc in its win streak. The Zips tallied a season-high in both categories on Sunday against WMU, making 55.9 percent (33-of-59) from the floor and 50 percent (7-of-14) from long range...The Cardinals, who hold a one-game lead in the league’s West Division standings, have lost two straight and three of their last four contests. BSU is 3-6 on the road this season... Freshman forward Jarrod Jones leads the Cardinals in scoring at 10.8 points per game and in rebounding at 7.2 boards per contest ... Jones is second among freshmen in the Mid-American Conference in scoring and first in the MAC on the glass for freshmen. He also leads all freshman in field goal percentage 47.6. He has been named the MACReportOnline.com mid-season Newcomer of the Year.

 

Ohio (12-10, 5-4 MAC) at Western Michigan (7-15, 4-5 MAC)
7 p.m. • Ohio leads series 60-57
• The Broncos are looking to end their four-game slide by snapping the Bobcats’ two-game winning streak...David Kool has moved into the top 10 in career scoring at Western Michigan with 1,225 career points on the back of 16 straight games in double figures. Kool has scored less than 10 points in only one game all year... WMU freshman Demetrius Ward had his most productive week of the season against Akron and Bowling Green, averaging 9.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per game, while also hitting the first two three-pointers of his career... ... During last Saturday’s win over Eastern Michigan, Ohio senior forward Jerome Tillman became just the fifth player to cement his name in the program’s top-10 in both career points and rebounds ... Ohio is 17-37 (.315) all-time against Western Michigan in Kalamazoo... Senior guard Michael Allen has chalked up 16 assists and just four turnovers in the Bobcats’ last three games.
