Miami Men's Basketball Coach Charlie Coles on Tuesday announced the signing of three student-athletes to national letters of intent.
Joining the RedHawks in 2010 are Jon Harris (6-8, forward), Quinten Rollins (6-0, point guard) and Josh Sewell (6-4, guard).
Sewell, a candidate for Kentucky's Mr. Basketball Award, is closing in on the (Louisville) Trinity High School career scoring record. He averaged 15.2 ppg and 7.0 rpg while earning third-team all-state honors as a junior.
"Josh Sewell, in my mind, is the most aggressive perimeter player I've ever signed as a head coach," said Coles, adding that Sewell excels in taking the ball to the basket and has a good pull-up shot. "Physically, he could play for our basketball team right now," Coles said. "He's ready to play physically, and he's ready to play mentally."
Coles was also excited about getting the athletic Rollins. "He's probably the best combo football/basketballk player we've ever signed," Coles said. "If he had decided to play football, he would probably have been a high recruit, but he loves basketball and tells me he loves Miami University, and I'm so glad because I think this guy can ... play right away."
The Wilmington (OH) high school senior averaged 17 ppg and was a third-team all-state selection in '08-'09.
Harris, according to Coles, "has the most professional potential of any guy that I've signed since (Wally) Szczerbiak."
Coles said that while Harris is thin, he is very skilled. "He shoots an outside jump shot and can really shoot the ball," Coles said. "He doesn't need a screen. His biggest drawback right now is physical strength. It may take him a month or two when he gets here, but there is no doubt in my mind that that young man is headed for basketball success.
Harris averaged 14.5 ppg and 9.8 rpg as a junior for Twinsburgh High School. |
