Hawkeyes Find Shooting Touch In Win Over Falcons |

IOWA CITY, IA. - Facing the possibility of starting a season 0-3 for the first time in 90 years, Iowa shook off some poor shooting in the early minutes to post a 68-46 win over Bowling Green Friday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Iowa, which connected on just 32.7 percent of its field goals during the two season-opening losses, missed seven of its first eight shots to start Friday's game. But after falling behind 7-3, Iowa went on a 10-0 run.
Eric May's three-point basket at 6:19 put the hosts up 24-11.
A late Bowling Green run pulled the Falcons to within nine and the visitors were down 33-20 at intermission.
It was Bowling Green's turn to struggle with shooting early in the second half as the Falcons failed to score until Otis Polk tipped in a shot at 16:22. That made it a 40-22 game.
Bowling Green took a time out after Brennan Cougill's layup gave the hosts a 51-28 lead.
May, a 6-5 freshman guard, scored 16 points to lead the Hawkeyes. He has now been in double figures in two of his first three games. May hit all four of his trey attempts and was five for seven from the field.
Other Hawkeyes in double figures were Matt Gatens (14) and Anthony Tucker (13).
Iowa shot 47 percent from the field while holding the Falcons to 39 percent.
Senior center Marc Larson had 12 points to lead Bowling Green. (12) and Dee Brown had eight points. By making two of three three-pointers, Brown is now seven of eight for the season outside the arc.
The Falcons, now 1-2,have eight days to prepare for their next opponent - Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The Nov. 28 game is the first in a three-game homestand. |
