MAC Power Check - Feb. 6

The East took all 12 games last week, running its record against the West to 12-0. And really, most of the games weren't even competitive. Saturday's contests were decided by an average of 16.5 points, remarkable considering that included two overtime games. Akron, Buffalo, Kent State, and Ohio are all 4-0 against the West this year, which makes this week fun for their fans as they all see who, if anyone, is going to blink.

Central Michigan senior quarterback Dan LeFevour was named  Vern Smith Leadership Award winner and headed up a list of Mid-American Conference all-stars, the league announced Wednesday.
The Vern Smith Leadership Award is presented to the conference's most valuable player. LeFevour, who leads his team against Ohio in the MAC Championship game Friday at Ford Field in Detroit, was also the MAC's Offensive Player of the Year. Adrian Robinson of Temple earned Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Other 2009 MAC Special Awards went to:
Al Golden, Temple, Coach of the Year
Antonio Brown, Central Michigan, Special Teams Player of the Year.
Bernard Pierce, Temple, Freshman of the year.

LeFevour had now earned MAC First Team honors four times. He was named to the Second Team in 2008 and was a MAC First Team selection the two previous years. This was Robinson's first All-MAC honor. Toledo safety Barry Church, meanwhile, ran the table by winning All-MAC First Team honors for the fourth consecutive year.

Temple led the way with eight players on the first team. Five of those spots were on the defensive side of the ball. Central Michigan put six players on the first team - three on offense, two on defense and one on special teams.

Ohio University, which will face CMU in Friday's title game, put three players on the All-MAC first team. Two of the selections were

part of the Bobcats kicking teams.
