Western Michigan brought 24 new Broncos into the fold Wednesday, and coach Bill Cubit discussed the players and process during an NLI Day press conference. The text of his comments follows.

"It’s a constant on the road. You’re on the road, catching a flight to get back for the weekend, but the staff did a great job developing relationships with the guys. When you walk in the house, you see cousins, moms, dads, grandparents, and it really helps out in the end.

"In terms of speed, we have two kids, John Henry and Michael Johnson who are both extremely fast.

"Just to go over the quarterbacks, we’ve got an all state guy [Michael Perish] and a great student. He took his team far, and really likes to challenge himself. Zack [Wynn] is a guy where I went to his house and there wasn’t a whole lot of things around his house. It’s a really rural area, but we’re really excited to have him.

"For running backs, from Florida we’ve got Dareyon [Chance], who has a hard work ethic and is a great kid.  He’s a little shorter guy, but on his team it worked out really well.  Tevin Drake is also a guy who is a great running back in the state of Florida.

"At tight end we’ve got Peter [Terrana], but right now he’s more or less a guy who can stretch the field and run. Michael Johnson is also a good athlete and we’ve got him at wide receiver.

"Defensive line wise I thought we needed to get bigger and be more athletic.  John Rice is a defensive lineman and the only JC guy we took.  He’s on campus already, and we’re really excited about him.

"Travonte Boles is at about 5’11 and 320 pounds right now. He’s a really explosive guy who can run. Pat Driscoll’s at about 285, and he’s a big athletic guy who can run around.

"In addition, we count Dex Jones, the transfer from Wisconsin.

"In the back end, we just said we wanted to take the best guys we could possibly find. John Henry is the state 100 meter champion, he can fly. I saw him run track the other day, and he looks really good.  We’re really happy with him. Maurice Roberts is another guy who can play wide-out, anything really, and he’s from a football-tough town. The safeties, we have three, one from Palm Beach Lakes, and Demetrius Pettway who’s from Homestead and from a great football program.  We stuck with him because he was one of the best guys.

"We were just in the right spot at the right time with some of these guys.  We’re really excited about the athleticism that we have and about the staff to see how we’re going to do things. A lot of schools contacted these guys, and they turned them down. They just felt comfortable here."
