CLEVELAND, OH —Senior guards Chris Singletary of Kent State and Kenny Hayes of Miami have been named co-MAC East Player of the Week.

Singletary earned his third Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week award this season as he was honored for the second straight week on Monday. (Feb. 8).  The honor marks the fifth time in the last six weeks that the Golden Flashes have had a player recognized. 

The Kent State senior guard averaged 12 points, 6.7 assists, 6.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals in victories over Northern Illinois on Monday, at Eastern Michigan on Thursday and at Central Michigan on Saturday as the Golden Flashes went 3-0 and maintained their lead atop the conference standings with an 8-2 record.

Saturday’s game was a match-up of MAC Divisional leaders, and Singletary delivered for KSU by scoring 19 points on 7-9 from the field while adding a team high six rebounds and six assists. During a pivotal 13-0 second half run, he assisted on two baskets, scored another and grabbed a rebound in a five minute span. Earlier in the week, he scored 10 points had eight rebounds and handed out six assists, all in just 23 minutes as KSU blew away Northern Illinois by a count of 76-46. On Thursday, he orchestrated another win by scoring seven points, handing out eight assists, grabbing five rebounds while registering four steals.

Singletary is the only active MAC player with over 1,100 career points, 400 rebounds, 250 assists and 150 steals. Kent State has a +167 advantage in points scored, an average of 8.4 points per game, when he has been on the court this season. 

Hayes led Miami in a pair of road wins, snapping a 15-game road skid dating back to last season, averaging 19.0 ppg, while shooting 56 percent from the field, and also averaging 4.0 rpg and 3.0 apg for the week.

He led the RedHawks with 16 points at Western Michigan, including the game-winning field goal with 0.8 seconds remaining to lift Miami to a 56-54 win against the Broncos, its first true road victory of the season. Hayes added five rebounds, five assists and one steal in the winning effort, hitting 53.3 percent of his shots from the floor.

At Northern Illinois, Hayes led all players with 22 points, his fifth 20-point scoring effort of the season, as the RedHawks clinched a 74-69 win against the Huskies. He shot a superb 60 percent from the field and 60 percent from 3 -point range (3-of-5) while knocking down 7-of-9 free throws. His three treys helped Miami to one of its best 3- point shooting efforts of the season, nailing 12 and shooting a season-best 63.2 percent from long range as a team.

In addition to collecting two road wins last week, Miami extended its win streak to a season-long four games.
