MOUNT PLEASANT, MI -- Robbie Harman and Jordan Bitzer combined for 33 points, and the top three-point shooting duo in the Mid-American Conference hit five treys Sunday as Central Michigan pulled away from the Toledo Rockets in the second half, 63-46, at Rose Center.
Harman led all scorers with 18 points and Bitzer added 15. The two seniors combined for a 5-for-13 effort from three-point range, with Harman connecting for a game-high three.
Toledo (3-23, 0-12 MAC) opened up the contest with an 8-2 lead, but Harman hit a three with 8:28 to play in the frame for a 12-10 lead and the Chippewas (12-12, 7-5 MAC) would never look back. Bitzer led four Chippewa scorers at the break with nine points and CMU went into the half up six, 23-17.
Back-to-back Chippewa threes opened up the second half to spur a 10-0 run, and Toledo would get no closer than 10 the rest of the way. Central Michigan would led by as many as 21 in the second half.
The Chippewas connected at 43 percent from the floor, 33 percent from deep, while the Rockets hit 36 percent of their field goals, 30 percent from long range. CMU held the edge on the glass, 33-26.
William McClure led all players with seven boards and blocked two shots.
The win snaps a three-game skid for the Chippewas and moves them back into a first-place tie atop the West Division with the Ball State Cardinals, setting up a showdown between the Chippewas and Cardinals who meet in Muncie Wednesday.
Toledo, which has now come up short in 16 straight games, host Eastern Michigan Wednesday.
