“We are thrilled to have a home game against one of the premiere mid-major programs in the country over the past 15-20 years,” said Head Coach Geno Ford.
Kent State is making its first appearance in the NIT since 2005 and eighth overall. The Golden Flashes (23-9, 13-3 MAC) earned an automatic bid to the annual post season tournament after winning the Mid-American Conference Regular Season Championship. Kent State has now qualified for the post-season in 11 of the last 12 years.
Tulsa enters the post-season with a 23-11 overall record. The Golden Hurricane finished fifth in Conference USA with a 10-6 league record. This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.
“Look at the other No. 4 seeds which are Connecticut, Seton Hall and North Carolina,” said Ford. “So to say we are the same seed as the defending national champions is not a bad thing.”
The winner of the game will move on to face the winner of the Illinois/Stony Brook match-up.
