CHAMPAIGN, Ill. ­  Illinois (21-14) used a big second-half run to beat Kent
State (24-10) 75-58 on Monday night and advance to the quarterfinals of the
National Invitation Tournament.  The Golden Flashes end the season with 24
victories, marking the fourth best single season total in school history.

With the game tied at 31 at halftime, the Illini went on an 18-7 run out of
the break to take control.  After shooting 50 percent in the first half,
Kent State made just 9-30 (30.0 percent) in the second while allowing
Illinois to convert on 58.1 percent (18-31) after the break.

Sophomore Justin Greene led KSU with 15 points and
seven rebounds, and senior Anthony Simpson totaled 14 points, shooting 3-3 from beyond the arc while grabbing seven rebounds himself. 

In what turned out to be the final game for senior Chris Singletary the versatile guard scored nine points, had five assists and four rebounds.  Singletary ends his career as the only player in school history with over 1,200 points, 450 rebounds, 300 assists
and 150 steals.  He will enter the Kent State record book ranked 12th with
1,236 career points, 10th with 325 career assists and third with 190 career
steals. 

For Illinois, Mike Davis had 16 points and 16 rebounds for his 15th double-double this season, while Mike Tisdale had 17 points.
