TOLEDO, OH — University of Toledo Men’s Basketball Coach Tod Kowalczyk announced on Tuesday that guard Dominique Buckley is transferring into the Rockets’ program after playing the last two years at Iowa State University. Buckley will have two years of eligibility remaining after he sits out the 2010-11 season.
“I’m very happy to welcome Dominique to our Rocket family,” Kowalczyk said. “He’s a versatile guard who can make plays as both a point guard or shooting guard. Dominique is also a physical defender, and I love the fact that he’s competed at a high level in the Big 12. We’re looking forward to having him be a part of our program.”
A Romulus, MI native, Buckley played in 27 games last year for the Cyclones and averaged 1.4 points and 0.9 assists. He also shot 40.9 percent (9-of-22) from three-point range in 7.4 minutes per contest. His top performance came when he tallied 10 points, five assists and shot 3-of-4 from three-point range in 19 minutes at Texas Tech on Jan. 20.
Buckley enjoyed a standout prep career at Romulus High School where he was ranked as the 124th-best player in the country according to ESPN 150 rankings. A member of the Detroit Free Press Dream Team and an Associated Press First-Team All-State selection, he led the Eagles to a 22-4 win-loss mark and a state semifinal appearance as a senior after averaging 15.2 points, 6.3 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game.
As a junior, he received second-team Class A all-state accolades after tallying 14.4 points, 6.3 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game along with a 39.0 three-point field-goal percentage.
