ATHENS, Ohio- Ohio wide receiver Taylor Price was taken with the 26th pick in the third round (90th overall) by the New England Patriots in the National Football League Draft Saturday night. He was the first Mid-American Conference player to be drafted this year and becomes the third Bobcat drafted in as many years.

A native of Hilliard, Ohio, Price was the first player taken from an Ohio school and became the first Ohio University wide receiver drafted since Dave Juenger in 1973. He is the also the third Bobcat receiver to ever be drafted. In addition, Price is the third Ohio player taken by the Patriots organization, including their days in the now-defunct AFL. He is the eighth Bobcat taken in the top 100 picks of an NFL Draft.

Price was one of Ohio’s greatest at the position during his four-year stint in Athens. He finished his career as the school’s all-time leader in career catches (149), single-game catches (14 at Wyoming in 2008) and tied the school record for single-game touchdown catches (3 vs. Akron in 2008).

Price is the also the 29th student-athlete in Ohio history to be drafted. With the seventh-round selection of Landon Cohen by the Detroit Lions (216th overall) in 2008 and the second-round selection of Michael Mitchell by the Oakland Raiders (47th overall) in 2009, this marks the first time the program has had a draft pick in three consecutive years since 1961-63 (Bob Brooks-61, Ted Stute and Allen Miller-62 and Charley Nickoson and Dick Schultz-63).
