BUFFALO, NY The University at Buffalo football program has extended its
intrastate series with the Army Black Knights and has also signed a one-game
deal with Morgan State that will give the Bulls an unprecedented seven home
games in 2012.
The Bulls and Black Knights, who played in Buffalo in 2008, will finalize
that initial two-game contract with a meeting on Sept. 9, 2017 at Army, but
have also agreed to meet four more times in the next decade. The two
programs will meet twice at West Point and twice more at UB Stadium between
2014 and 2020. The first date will be a game on September 6, 2014 at
historic Michie Stadium on the campus of West Point, with two games in
Buffalo (9/17/16 and 9/29/18) before wrapping the series on Oct. 24, 2020
back at Army.
The two programs have met three times in their football histories, with Army
capturing the first meeting in 1960 at West Point (37-0), and the Bulls
taking the last two games 26-19 at Army in 2001 and a dramatic 27-24
overtime win at UB Stadium in 2008.
³We are thrilled to extend our series with Army,² said Warde Manuel, UBıs
Director of Athletics. "With their tremendous football history, and large
and faithful following, Michie Stadium is one of the best venues in America
to play a college football game and is also close to our large alumni base
in greater New York City. We also know, evidenced by our outstanding crowd
here in 2008, that Army is a great draw for our fans in Western New York,
including our many military families.²
In addition, the Bulls have reached agreement to play Morgan State on Sept.
8, 2012 at UB Stadium, making for an unprecedented home schedule that
season. Buffalo will host four Mid-American Conference foes to be
determined, but will also host Boston College of the Atlantic Coast
Conference to open the season (8/30/12), the Bears of Morgan State and
Pittsburgh, of the Big East (10/6/12). It will be the first time in UBıs
history that they will have seven home games in a season, and also the first
time the Bulls will play host to a pair of teams from Bowl Championship
Series (BCS) conferences in one season.
"I think it speaks to the growth of our program that we have been able to
secure seven home games and the level of competition that we will see at UB
Stadium,² said Manuel. "I am hopeful that our students, faculty, staff,
alumni and fans will show the support to our program commensurate with being
able to get programs like Boston College and Pitt to play here in Buffalo.
Its a fantastic opportunity for our football team to compete at home seven
times against terrific competition."
