The Mid-American Conference has annouced its Players of the Week for Week 7 of the 2010 football season.
East Division
Offensive Player of the Week: Ohio QB Boo Jackson
Senior quarterback Boo Jackson (Gardena, Calif.) was a triple threat in Ohio’s 38-10 win over Akron. Jackson completed 14-of-21 passes for 161 yards, one passing touchdown and two rushing scores (both one-yard runs). He also hauled in a 42-yard bomb deep down the middle off the arm of fellow quarterback Phil Bates. Jackson’s two passing touchdowns tied him for the school’s all-time touchdown passing record of 29.
Defensive Player of the Week: Miami LB Evan Harris
Sophomore linebacker Evan Harris (Waldorf, Md.) registered a career and team-high 11 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, two interceptions and one passed defensed in a 27-20 win at Central Michigan. Harris’ two interceptions were the first for the RedHawks by a single player since 2006.
Special Teams Player of the Week: Temple DE Adrian Robinson
Junior defensive end Adrian Robinson (Harrisburg, Pa.) blocked a PAT attempt in Temple’s 28-27 win over Bowling Green as this play was the difference in the game forcing the Falcons to opt for a two-point conversion on the game’s final play. The blocked kick is Robinson’s second this season for the Owls as he also plays on punt return and PAT/field goal defensive units. Defensively, Robinson has 25 tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks and two recovered fumbles.
West Division
Offensive Player of the Week: Eastern Michigan QB Alex Gillett
Sophomore quarterback Alex Gillett (Green Springs, Ohio) rushed for 189 yards and two scores and completed 10-of-18 passes for 225 yards and three touchdowns in a come-from-behind 41-38 overtime win at Ball State. Gillett accounted for 414 yards of total offense, ninth-best in school history, and set school quarterback records for most rushes (35) and net rushing yards (189) in a single-game. Gillett scored on touchdown runs of two and six yards and threw touchdown passes of 12, 33 and 73 yards. His 12-yard touchdown pass to tight end Ben Thayer in overtime was the game-winner.
Defensive Player of the Week: Toledo DE T.J. Fatinikun
Sophomore defensive end T.J. Fatinikun (Perrysburg, Ohio) collected five tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and a key 10-yard sack in the Rockets 34-21 win over Kent State. Fatinikun was part of a defensive effort that limited Kent State to only 42 yards and scoreless in the second half.
Special Teams Player of the Week: Northern Illinois S Jimmie Ward
Freshman safety Jimmie Ward (Mobile, Ala.) recorded his second blocked punt of the season in a 45-14 win over Buffalo. Ward burst through to get his hands on a Jacob Schum punt on the Buffalo nine-yard line and the Huskies took possession on the Buffalo 20-yard line. Ward also forced a fumble late in the game and contributed two tackles, one on special teams.
