MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State University has announced the school is terminating without cause its contract with head football coach Stan Parrish, according to Ball State director of intercollegiate athletics Tom Collins.

“As we evaluated the on-field performance and the football program in its entirety, we decided it was time for a change in direction in the leadership of the program,” Collins says. “We have been impressed with the way our student-athletes have carried themselves this season.  We have quality student-athletes, and they have continued to battle through a challenging season.  We wish Coach Parrish the best as he pursues other opportunities.”

The search for a new coach will begin immediately. Because the search process is a personnel matter, the university will not comment until a replacement is announced. Eddie Faulkner, who has served as Ball State’s offensive coordinator the last two seasons, will serve as interim head coach until the permanent head coach is identified.

Parrish, who was an assistant football coach at Ball State from 2005-08, was named the school’s 15th head coach Dec. 18, 2008.  He led the Cardinals at the GMAC Bowl in Mobile, Ala., at the conclusion of the 2008 campaign and then served as Ball State’s head coach during the 2009 and 2010 seasons.

Ball State managed a 2-10 overall record and a 2-6 Mid-American Conference mark in 2009 and posted a 4-8 overall mark and a 3-5 MAC record in 2010.  The 2010 campaign marked his 11th year as a collegiate head coach, including stints at Wabash (1978-82), Marshall (1984-85) and Kansas State (1986-88).  Parrish compiled a 61-50-3 career coaching record.
