Image Northern Illinois University will introduce Mark Montgomery as its new men’s basketball head coach on Thursday, March 24, 2011.  The official introduction of Montgomery as NIU's 27th men's basketball head coach will take place live online as the announcement will be made by NIU Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics Jeff Compher via a virtual press conference on www.NIUHuskies.com beginning at 1:30 p.m. (Central Time). The press conference will be available free on Huskies All-Access.

Montgomery has spent the last 10 seasons at his alma mater, Michigan State University, under head coach Tom Izzo.  He has coached in three Final Fours and has served as associate head coach for the last four years. 

The Inkster, Mich. native has experience in the Mid-American Conference as he spent four years as an assistant coach at Central Michigan. As a four-year starter at MSU from 1988-92, he played on three NCAA Tournament teams and was part of the 1990 Big Ten Championship team.  He ranks third all-time at Michigan State in career assists and is third on the MSU career steals list.
