YPSILANTI, MI. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University Head Football Coach Ron English announced Tuesday, June 7, that seniors Latarrius Thomas (New Smyrna Beach, Fla.-Smyrna Beach-Louisville) and Nate Paopao (Oceanside, Calif.-El Camino-Palomar J.C.) have been granted medical hardship waivers for the 2010 season. The duo will each be able to play in 2011.
"Having two guys with their experience and maturity will certainly help our football team," said the third-year head coach. "I am both happy and excited for Latarrius and Nate to continue their play careers."
A 6-1 defensive back from New Smyrna Beach, Fla., Thomas played in two games last season, recording 18 tackles, before suffering a season-ending injury. He joined the team in January 2009 and participated in 2009 and 2010 spring drills while sitting out as a transfer from the University of Louisville.
Paopao, a 6-foot linebacker from Oceanside, Calif., saw action in two games before missing the remainder of the 2010 season with an injury. He recorded three tackles in the season opener versus Army, Sept. 4, to go along with a pair of stops versus Miami, Sept. 11. He has played in a total of 12 games during his two years on campus.
