The Mid-American Conference Monday announced its Week 2 Players of the Week
East Division
Offensive Player of the Week: Bowling Green WR Eugene Cooper
Senior wide receiver Eugene Cooper (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) registered career-highs in catches (6), yards (134) and touchdowns (4) in the Falcons’ 58-13 win over Morgan State. Cooper’s four receiving touchdowns tied a school record for touchdown catches in a single game. The last Falcon to record such a feat was Jeff Groth in 1978 versus Grand Valley State.
Defensive Player of the Week: Buffalo LB Khalil Mack
Sophomore linebacker Khalil Mack (Fort Pierce, Fla.) was a one-man wrecking crew for the Bulls, recording a team-best eight tackles (four solos), 3.5 tackles for loss, a sack, two forced fumbles, an interception and three quarterback hurries. Mack's second forced fumble snuffed out a drive at the UB three-yard line and led to a UB turnover. Mack helped limit a Stony Brook offense that had 410 yards last week at UEP to just 298 yards.
Special Teams Player of the Week: Ohio K Matt Weller
Junior kicker Matt Weller (Twinsburg, Ohio) was 3-of-4 on field goals and a perfect 3-for-3 on extra points Saturday night against Gardner-Webb. Weller’s longest field goal came from 45 yards out. His lone miss was from 53-yards midway through the third quarter.
West Division
Offensive Player of the Week: Toledo WR Eric Page
Junior wide receiver Eric Page (Toledo, Ohio) caught 12 passes for 145 yards and 2 touchdowns in Toledo's 27-22 loss at No. 15 ranked Ohio State. Page has now caught a touchdown pass in seven of the last eight games. Page also threw for a two-point conversion.
Defensive Player of the Week: Eastern Michigan LB Marcus English
Senior linebacker Marcus English (Dayton, Ohio) posted a team-best 10 tackles in a 14-7 win over Alabama State. English added 3.5 tackles for a loss, one sack and was part of a defense that held the Hornets to minus-13 yards rushing in the game to break the EMU record for fewest rushing yards allowed in a contest.
Special Teams Player of the Week: Western Michigan K John Potter
Senior placekicker John Potter (Grand Haven, Mich.) made good on all five point after attempts, extending his Western Michigan career record for consecutive PATs made streak to 78 straight. Potter was also true on his only field goal attempt, a 40-yard kick to cap the scoring against Nicholls. Potter accounted for eight of Western Michigan’s 38 points against the Colonels.
