 The Mid-American Conference Monday announced its Week No. 4 Players of the Week.
East Division
Offensive Player of the Week: Temple RB Bernard Pierce
Junior running back Bernard Pierce (Ardmore, Pa.) rushed for a school record and MAC record-tying five touchdowns in a 38-7 win at Maryland. Pierce eclipsed the 100-yard mark in rushing for the 12th time in his career and third time this season. He finished the game with 149 yards on 32 carries for five touchdowns. It was the first time in his career that he scored three touchdowns in the first quarter alone. The five rushing scores also tie the MAC record, held by 10 players. After four games, Pierce leads the Owls (and the MAC) with 496 yards and a national-best 12 touchdowns on 87 carries. He is the Owls’ and MAC’s top scorer with 72 points.
Defensive Player of the Week: Kent State S Luke Wollet
Sophomore safety Luke Wollet (Poland, Ohio) recorded a pair of interceptions while matching his season-high with eight tackles as the Flashes earned their first win with a 33-25 over South Alabama. His second quarter pick and ensuing 22-yard return helped set up Kent State's second touchdown of the day. He then helped preserve the victory with another interception with just under three minutes remaining.
Special Teams Player of the Week: Bowling Green WR Ray Hutson
Senior receiver Ray Hutson (Detroit, Mich.) had a blocked punt and recovered a fumble in the Falcons’ 37-23 win at Miami. Hutson blocked a punt late in the second quarter to set up a 1-yard touchdown pass on the following play to give Bowling Green a 20-14 lead. He later recovered a fumble on a kickoff return following a Miami touchdown (BG led by just 7) at the Falcons’ three-yard line. Two plays later Anthon Samuel ran 96 yards for a score to put the Falcons up 37-23.
West Division
Co-Offensive Player of the Week: Western Michigan WR Jordan White
Senior wide receiver Jordan White (Cleveland, Ohio) recorded his third game with at least 10 catches with a career-matching 14 for 134 and a touchdown in a 23-30 loss at No. 24 Illinois. White became only the fourth Bronco to have over 200 career catches and recorded his 14th 100-yard receiving game, ranking second all-time at Western Michigan. He leads the MAC in receiving yards per game and receptions per game, ranking third in the country in each category.
Co-Offensive Player of the Week: Toledo WR Eric Page
Junior wide receiver Eric Page (Toledo, Ohio) had a season high 13 receptions and career high 158 receiving yards in a 33-30 OT loss at Syracuse. Page had 279 all-purpose yards, including 114 yards in kickoff returns. Page passed Steve Odom (216 catches for 2,631 yards, 2003-06) to move into second place in school history with 219 career receptions for 2,696 yards.
Defensive Player of the Week: Ball State S Sean Baker
Senior safety Sean Baker (Canfield, Ohio) managed eight tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack and one interception in Ball State’s 48-21 victory over Army. Baker, who is already Ball State’s career interceptions leader, tallied the 17th of his career vs. the Black Knights. He was a part of a Ball State defense that tied an NCAA single game record by not allowing Army to complete a pass in the game.
Special Teams Player of the Week: Toledo K Jeremiah Detmer
Freshman placekicker Jeremiah Detmer (Hilliard, Ohio) kicked a 52-yd FG in his first attempt as a collegian in a 33-30 OT loss at Syracuse. The 52-yarder was the second-longest field goal in Toledo history (55 by Todd France in 2001 was longest). Detmer also averaged 67 yards per kickoff on five kickoffs.
