The Mid-American Conference Monday announced its Week 11 Players of the Week.
East Division
Offensive Player of the Week: Temple RB Matt Brown
Junior running back Matt Brown (Baltimore, Md.) made his first start of the season and rushed 24 times for 123 yards and a touchdown in a 24-21 win over Miami. It was his fourth 100-yard rushing game of the season and eighth of his career. Brown finished with 172 all-purpose yards.
Defensive Player of the Week: Kent State DT Roosevelt Nix
Sophomore defensive tackle Roosevelt Nix (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) matched a career-high of six tackles in Kent State’s 35-3 win over Akron and spent much of his day disrupting the Zips’ backfield. He tallied 1.5 tackles for loss, broke up two passes and nearly blocked a punt, which resulted in a 10-yard kick and led to a Kent State touchdown. Nix helped his defense hold Akron to just 58 yards rushing on 27 attempts.
Special Teams Player of the Week: Ohio P Paul Hershey
Senior punter Paul Hershey (Fremont, Ohio) booted five punts for 205 yards (41.0 yards per punt), including a 51-yard punt. Hershey also was instrumental in helping the Bobcats pin Central Michigan deep inside its own territory as he laid four punts inside the 20-yard line with no touchbacks.
West Division
Co-Offensive Player of the Week: Western Michigan QB Alex Carder
Junior quarterback Alex Carder (Shawnee, Kan.) threw for a program record 548 yards and seven TDs, rushing for another, in Western Michigan's 66-63 loss at Toledo. Carder threw TD passes to five different receivers en route to becoming the first Western Michigan QB to throw for over 500 yards and eclipse the 400-yard mark in a game for the third time this season. Carder's yardage total ranks second all-time in MAC history and his passing TD total is tied for the most in conference history. His 548 yards ranked as the nation's best this week and is the most yards thrown for in a game in FBS so far this season.
Co-Offensive Player of the Week: Western Michigan WR Jordan White
Senior wide receiver Jordan White (Cleveland, Ohio) recorded the most receiving yards in a game (238) in the nation last week and the sixth most in FBS this season in a 66-63 loss at Toledo. White became Western Michigan's career receiving yards leader (3,678), as well as single-season receptions (111) and receiving yards (1,402) king. It was the third time in program history a Western Michigan receiver had over 200 yards receiving in a game and the first since Greg Jennings accomplished the feat in five overtimes in 2005. His 16 receptions also matched a program mark and his 18th 100-yard receiving game is more than any other Bronco receiver in program history.
Defensive Player of the Week: Eastern Michigan DL Brad Ohrman
Senior defensive lineman Brad Ohrman (Adrian, Mich.) recorded 8 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and one sack in the Eagles’ 30-17 victory over Buffalo. Ohrman also added a quarterback-hurry in the win. On the afternoon, the Eagles defense tallied 10 tackles-for-loss and limited the Bulls to just 252 yards of offense.
Special Teams Player of the Week: Western Michigan K John Potter
Senior kicker John Potter (Grand Haven, Mich.) made a career high nine PATs, ranking second in a game in program history, at Toledo. Potter became the MAC's record holder for consecutive PATs made in a career, passing Miami's John Scott (1995-98) and now holds the mark at 114. His nine points gives him 81 points in 2011, the sixth most in a season in program history and ties Brad Selent (1997-2000) for the most points in a career in program history.
