TOLEDO 90, VICTORY 47
EDINBURG, TX - Toledo concluded its season-opening trip to Texas with a 90-47 romp over Victory (TN) University. The victory gives the Rockets a 3-1 record and UT its best start since opening with a similar mark in the 2005-06 campaign.

Sophomore G Rian Pearson led five Rockets in double figures with a game-high 21 points and nine rebounds. Sophomore F Reese Holliday (16 pts., 7 reb.), junior G Dominque Buckley (14 pts.), freshman G Julius Brown (14 pts.) and sophomore C DeLino Dear (11 pts.) were also in double digits.

"Having a lot of guys score for us is going to be the story of our season," Toledo Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk said. "We're a team that's very versatile, and I think having a number of guys in double figures is going to happen a lot for us."

The Rockets shot 51.6 percent as a team and limited the Eagles to a 25.4 shooting mark. It was the second straight game Toledo held its opponent to lower than a 31.0 FG%.

"I thought our defensive effort was good," Kowalczyk said. "We also shared the ball, but I thought we had too many turnovers."

UT took control from the start, jumping out to a 14-3 advantage in the first five minutes with Pearson tallying eight of the Rockets' first 10 points. The Rockets then put away the Eagles later in the opening stanza with an 18-6 spurt to end the half for a 48-21 halftime lead.

Toledo returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 26 for its home opener vs. UIC.

Note: Sophomore F Matt Smith did not play in the contest after colliding with a teammate during warm-ups.
