TOLEDO 73, CHICAGO STATE 61
CHICAGO, IL – Toledo continued its red-hot start on Saturday afternoon awith a 73-61 road win over Great West Conference foe Chicago State. The Rockets’ 6-1 start to the season is their best in eight years, and their six-game winning streak is the longest since winning the 2006-07 MAC regular-season title.

Junior G Dominique Buckley led the Rockets by scoring a career-high 21 points for a second-straight game. He also connected on a career-high five treys and grabbed a career-best six rebounds.

“Dominique’s a very good scorer,” Toledo head coach Tod Kowalczyk said. “He’s playing with a swagger and has a lot of confidence right now.”

“I’m feeling good, and I’m just trying to let the game come to me. I think I was forcing things in our first couple of games, but now my shot’s been falling,” Buckley said.

Also scoring in double figures were sophomore F Matt Smith (14 pts., career-high nine reb.) and freshman G Ryan Majerle (season-high 14 points and two blocks). Sophomore F Reese Holliday had a productive outing with nine rebounds, a team-high five assists to go along with four points.

Junior F Jeremy Robinson topped the Cougars with 17 points, while senior F Lee Fisher contributed 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

The Rockets' leading scorer Rian Pearson was battling the flu and was limited to five points, six rebounds and three steals in a season-low tying 24 minutes

“Rian was nowhere near himself and I give him a ton of credit for going out and playing and taking one for the team,” Kowalczyk said. “We needed that from him today.”

Toledo led wire-to-wire and held a 35-20 halftime advantage. UT limited the Cougars to a 25.0 FG percentage in the first half and a 34.4 shooting mark for the game. The Rockets’ biggest lead was at 65-41 with just over six minutes to play.

"The start of the game was key for us," Kowalczyk said. "Chicago State was 0-7 but had played an unbelievably brutal schedule. We didn't want to let them get any confidence early. I thought we did a good job of coming out with great energy and focus and took care of business.”

Toledo now returns home to begin a four-game homestand, beginning with a matchup against Atlantic 10 power Temple on Wednesday, Dec. 7. Tip-off time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Savage Arena.
