Image TOLEDO, Ohio - University of Toledo head football coach Matt Campbell unveiled his 2012 recruiting class Wednesday, and for the third year in a row the Rockets have signed a class rated as one of the best in the Mid-American Conference.

Scout.com ranks Toledo’s 2012 recruiting class as No. 1 in the MAC, while Rivals.com rates the class as No. 2 in the league. A year ago, UT’s recruiting class was ranked No. 1 by both services, and in 2010 Toledo’s class was ranked No. 1 in the MAC by Rivals and No. 2 by Scout.

The Rockets added 31 new players to a team that went 9-4 in 2011, including a 42-41 victory over Air Force in the Military Bowl. Twelve of the Rockets’ signees are ranked as either three-star or four-star recruits. The complete list of 31 players includes four preferred walk-ons who will not sign national letters of intent, as well as junior college punter Brad Dunavant, who signed an NLI last semester and is currently enrolled at UT.

Campbell, who assumed the UT head coaching position on Dec. 12 after three seasons as offensive coordinator, said this may be Toledo’s best and deepest recruiting class in his time at UT.

“This recruiting class attacks every area of need on our football team,” said Campbell, who made his debut as head coach in the Military Bowl. “I feel like our staff did a great job of finding quality young men with great character, a passion for the game and a commitment to excellence in the classroom.

“The continuity of our coaching staff combined with the quality of young men currently in our program are two key factors in our ability to atttract such a high level of talent to the University of Toledo.”

Locally, the Rockets added four players from Northwest Ohio, including Toledo Blade Player of the Year Jody Webb from Toledo Whitmer. Webb is the fifth-consecutive Blade Player of the Year to sign with UT.
