KALAMAZOO, MI - The Western Michigan football program has announced its non-conference schedule for the next two seasons, with three Big Ten opponents on tap for 2011 and 2012 ,as well as a home-and-home with 2011 Tostitos Fiesta Bowl participant Connecticut.
Western Michigan will take on Michigan, Illinois and Minnesota over the next two seasons, with the 2011 campaign opening at Michigan, the site of the Broncos' 2009 season opener. Illinois returns to the schedule in both 2011 and 2012, with WMU opening the 2012 campaign in Champaign, Ill. The Broncos defeated Illinois at Ford Field on Nov. 8, 2008, 23-17. As previously announced, Western Michigan will travel to Minnesota to take on the Golden Gophers in 2012 as well.
Western Michigan will play Connecticut for the first time since Nov. 1, 2003 when the Broncos travel to Hartford, Conn., to take on the Huskies in 2011. It is also scheduled to have UConn come to Waldo Stadium for the first time ever. The Broncos will round out the non-conference schedule in 2011 with a return trip from Nicholls State and welcome Eastern Illinois to Waldo in 2012.
WMU also announced the Mid-American Conference crossover games with the East Division in 2011. Western Michigan will host Bowling Green and Akron at home and will travel to Oxford, Ohio for a showdown with 2010 MAC champion Miami, as well. Game dates and times will be announced by the conference.
