Don’t look now but hoops season is about to get underway and it starts tonight when Miami heads out West for the opening game in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic Tournament in Los Angeles.

Miami tips off its 2008-09 campaign in Los Angeles, Calif., at the 2K Sport Classic Benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer.
The RedHawks battle Weber State at 7:15 p.m. (ET) on Wednesday, Nov. 12 and face either UCLA or Prairie View A&M on Thursday with the consolation game taking place at 8:15 p.m. and the winners bracket game scheduled for 11 p.m.
 
The RedHawks have faced Weber State just once, posting a 86-83 overtime win at Weber State during the 1986-87 season.
 
Miami returns 68.0 percent of its rebounding and 69.5 percent of its scoring from a season ago.
 
Back are senior starters Michael Bramos, Tyler Dierkers, Kenny Hayes and Eric Pollitz, along with six other returning letterwinners from the 2007-08 season.
 
A win in today’s game would mark the RedHakws 70th season-opening win and would also mark the 300th career win for Miami head coach Charlie Coles..
 
Weber State returns four letterwinners, including two starters, from a squad that posted a 16-14 overall record and 10-6 conference mark a season ago and advanced to its league tournament semifinals.
