 MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State men's basketball senior guard Peyton Stovall has been named to the 2007-08 All-Senior All-America Team as selected in balloting for the 2007-08 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award by cumulative results of NCAA Division I coaches, national media and fan balloting.
"This is a tremendous honor for Peyton and the Ball State basketball program," said Ball State head coach Billy Taylor. "The Lowe's Senior CLASS Award and All-Senior All-America Team pay tribute to seniors who are not only able to achieve on the court, but are also well-rounded and successful off the court."
Stovall was one of 10 finalists for the 2007-08 Lowe's Senior Class Award, which was presented to Vanderbilt's Shan Foster during CBS's broadcast of the NCAA Men's Final Four April 5. Foster was joined on the All-Senior All-America First Team by: Roy Hibbert (Georgetown), Chris Lofton (Tennessee), Drew Neitzel (Michigan State) and DeMarcus Nelson (Duke). Joining Stovall on the second team were: Jaycee Carroll (Utah State), A.J. Graves (Butler), Brian Roberts (Dayton) and Sean Singletary (Virginia).
Stovall finished his playing career at Ball State this season ranked 10th in school history with 1,383 career points, becoming one of only 24 players in program history to eclipse the 1,000-point mark. He also ranks second in school history with 163 career three-pointers, making him one of only 11 players in school annals to drain over 100 three-pointers.
Concluding his career by scoring in double figures in 69 career games, Stovall is the first Ball State student-athlete and first men's basketball player from the Mid-American Conference, to be named a finalist for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.
Stovall also made school and MAC history by being named one of five national finalists for the Coach John Wooden Citizenship Cup. Due to the closest vote in Wooden Cup history, and a movement from professional recipient Andrea Jaeger, all five finalists were declared winners and shared the prestigious honor.
An All-Mid-American Conference Honorable Mention this season after ranking second on the team in scoring average (13.5) and rebounding average (6.0), Stovall was named to the MAC All-Freshman Team and was runner-up in the league's Freshman of the Year voting in 2003-04.
Off the court, Stovall regularly mentors a group of children at a local church in Muncie and makes regular visits to area elementary schools. In June of 2007, he was a featured speaker to more than 840 high school student-athletes at the Indiana State High School Athletic Association Leadership Conference. Stovall also participates in the Black Achievers Program in the Muncie community, spending two hours per week as a tutor at a local Baptist church and another two hours per week mentoring middle school students.
Stovall has served as a liaison for the Drug Awareness Resistance Education (DARE) program since 2003, serving to spread a "Don't Do Drugs" message to children in Muncie and his hometown of Lafayette. He is also active in the Ball State Student Government Association, assisting candidates and officers in regards to student issues.
