TOLEDO, OH — University of Toledo Men’s Basketball Coach Tod Kowalczyk has announced  that 6-1, 180-pound guard J.T. Thomas will be joining the Rockets’ program for the 2010-11 season.

“We are extremely excited that J.T. has made the decision to join our Rocket family,” Kowalczyk said. “He’s a talented guard who possesses all the intangibles we’re looking for. J.T. has a very good feel for the game and is someone who plays with toughness, can score in a variety of ways and possesses the athleticism needed to become a good defender.”

A New Orleans, LA native, Thomas attended the IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL this past year where he averaged 18.0 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game. He played in just 16 contests after breaking his foot in September. Thomas averaged 18.0 points and six assists per game as senior at Edna Karr High School.

“J.T. possesses a very high basketball IQ and has played against a high-level of competition in high school and AAU play,” IMG Post-Graduate Coach Dan Barto said. “He’s very good at getting shooters the ball in good position and he was able to make our team more competitive and overachieve.”

Thomas joins the Rockets’ 2010-11 recruiting class that also includes 6-4, 205-pound guard Reese Holliday (Kansas City, KS) and 6-9, 205-pound forward/center Delino Dear (Chicago, IL). UT is also adding three transfers to its program — 6-2, 200-pound guard Dominique Buckley from Iowa State, as well as 6-3, 190-pound guard Rian Pearson and 6-7, 200-pound forward Matt Smith from UW-Green Bay.
